LIST OF MASONIC PRESIDENTS OF AMERICA:

July 16, 2024

George Washington is by far the most famous Founding Father that was also a Freemason. Thomas Jefferson was not a Mason but a very curious Christian indeed. He created the Jefferson Bible, a topic for another day. Benjamin Franklin is probably the second most famous Freemason although he was never the president.

Out of total of 46 presidents, 14/15 were Freemasons, about a third. There has only ever been two Catholics and no Jewish president. They have predominantly been White Anglo Saxon Protestant men. No woman has ever been elected.

George Washington 1789-1797
James Monroe 1817-1824
Andrew Jackson 1829-1837
James K. Polk 1845-1849
James Buchanan 1857-1861
Andrew Johnson 1865-1869
James A. Garfield March 1881-Sept 1881
William McKinley 1879-1901
Theodore Roosevelt 1901-1909
William H. Taft 1909-1913
Warren G. Harding 1921-1923
Franklin D. Roosevelt 1933-1945
Harry S. Truman 1945-1953

Lyndon B. Johnson (1963-1969) only did the first degree and was never a full member of the lodge.

Gerald Ford 1974-1977. He was Nixon’s Vice President and never officially elected for the role. Ford was the last Freemason to serve as president.

Dwight D. Eisenhower, JFK, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, none of these men have been Freemasons. Reagan was made an honorary Mason and Clinton belonged to the Order of De Molay during his youth.

Since 1953, a period stretching more than 70 years, only Gerald Ford has been a fully qualified Freemason. The motto ‘In God We Trust’ replaced the original motto ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM’, Out of Many, One, in 1956.
