– THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH, AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH? “It is heretical to say that any falsehood whatever is contained either in the Gospels or in any canonical Scripture”. – Thomas Aquinas. I was raised as a Protestant Christian during Apartheid South Africa. Seventh Day Adventist on my mother’s side, and Dutch Reformed on my father’s. I went to church on both a Saturday (Sabbath), and a Sunday.
The two beliefs were, and remain, diametrically opposed. Although both are Protestant, Seventh Day Adventists teach that the correct day of worship is the Sabbath, not the Day of the Sun. The one thing they agree upon is that the Bible is infallible, inerrant, and most importantly, Absolute. No ifs or buts. My mom still prescribes to the idea that the earth itself is a little over 6000 years old.
LITERALLY IN ERROR: Biblical inerrancy is the belief that the Bible “is without error or fault in all its teaching”; or, at least, that “Scripture in the original manuscripts does not affirm anything that is contrary to fact”. Originating in Evangelicalism, the Fundamentalists affirmed that the Bible is to be read “literally” or overtly, leading some to reject not only physicalist evolution but even evolution science and to deny that life developed over billions of years. A view that sometimes could unhelpfully turn the Bible into an authority on science and history.
For a believer in total biblical inerrancy, Holy Scripture is the Word of God, and carries the full authority of God. Every single statement of the Bible calls for instant understanding and acceptance. Every doctrine of the Bible is the teaching of God and therefore requires full agreement. Every promise of the Bible calls for unshakable trust in its fulfillment. Every command of the Bible is the directive of God himself and therefore demands willing observance.
“You have looked into the holy scriptures, which are true, which were given by the Holy Spirit. You know that nothing unrighteous or falsified is written in them”. – Clement of Rome. – Wiki –
EATING FROM THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE: When I turned 18, I had a choice to make. Should I stay, or should I go? Stay, and follow the well trodden path mapped out for me since birth by my family, religion, and culture. Or Go, and create a new path that others may one day choose to explore. I chose to go. Because of sanctions and a general boycott of anything and everything South African, the Apartheid years of my childhood were rather sterile, predictable, and not particularly exciting. Coupled with the propaganda I was exposed to on a daily basis, the lies, hypocrisy, fear and hate, led to a great desire for something to change.
Luckily for me, and tens of millions of black South Africans, Nelson Mandela was freed from prison, the ANC unbanned, and Apartheid deconstructed. This sudden change provided me with the opportunity to break free and spread my wings.
My family was dead set against it, as traveling would corrupt my soul and lead me away from God. It wasn’t that I didn’t believe in God, it was more that I didn’t believe in the God of my childhood, the God of Apartheid. I wanted to discover God for myself, free from the conditioning I had been programmed into since birth. In order to make the break, I had to commit, and committing meant I had to potentially sacrifice my soul. I had to sacrifice my soul in order to discover my soul, and to discover my soul I had to eat from the tree of knowledge, the tree of good and evil.
USUAL SUSPECTS: There are only a limited amount of options. Choose the Bible as the one and only option. Reject the Bible as mostly containing superstitious nonsense, therefore choosing science, atheism and humanism. Choose a different Christian denomination than the one prescribed at birth. Alternatively, choose an entirely new religion like Hinduism, Buddhism, or even Shamanism and Paganism. New Age beliefs are an amalgamation of any spiritual traditions that fall outside the scope of traditional Christianity.
Any choice apart from the Bible as the Word of God, was, and is the wrong choice, and will inevitably lead straight to hell. So they say.
HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT: Now the thing is, there exists another option. The hidden Bible, the Bible that can be found inside of the Bible, but only if you know where to look, and even more importantly, if you understand how to interpret what you are being shown. This secret Bible is the one spoken of in the Grail legends, the Bible of the Knights Templar, Rosicrucians, and Freemasonry. A version of the Bible that is not in opposition to other faiths, religions, and cultures, but rather affirms them, as they collectively affirm the truth. Ironically, only by studying other cultures and religions, can the Bible be decoded.
There exists a universal understanding of God, Consciousness, the Great Mystery, call it what you like. A truth best expressed through sacred geometry, numbers, architecture and astronomy. A truth hidden in the language of symbols and codes. A truth that is denied by the Church and branded as heresy, falsehood and evil. A truth that is hidden from the Church itself.
SHALL THE TRUTH SET YOU FREE: A truth waiting to be discovered by the few that are willing to climb the mountain of consciousness. We cannot set out on this journey with a fixed perspective of the truth, otherwise it is nothing more than confirming our inherent biases. I refer to myself as a rational mystic. I want to understand things, not just blindly accept them without thorough investigation. Once my mind is at ease, my spirit is free to expand beyond the mind. Think of it as the merging of science and spirituality.
Many of us were born into a Christian culture and are familiar with the stories and rituals found in the Bible. Even if we think it doesn’t impact us, it does. The condition runs deep. Instead of total rejection, there is another way, discovering once and for all what the actual teachings are. We must deconstruct to reconstruct, eliminating all doubt, guilt, and subconscious fear. In this context knowledge is power, self empowerment. Only once we have all the relevant information can we make a truly informed decision of what truth is, or is not.
Always keeping in mind that we will forever be approximating truth, as it is never ending and ever expanding.
