GOD CANNOT BLESS THE SCAPEGOAT: – What is sin? Who gets to decide? There are obvious acts that are universally condemned as bad and wrong, and then there are less obvious acts that are lumped together with the more obvious acts. Most if not all people will agree that murder, theft, rape, kidnapping, child abuse, and other serious crimes are wrong. Is homosexuality a serious crime that deserves the death sentence? The Bible seems to think so.
OLD TESTAMENT: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind; it is detestable. And if a man lie with mankind, as with womankind, both of them have committed a detestable act: They shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus 20:13
NEW TESTAMENT: Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor sodomites nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9–10, Saint Paul.
Jesus never condemned homosexuality, modern attitudes are mainly derived from the opinions of Saint Paul and the Old Testament. The Catholic church, as with many mainstream Protestant and Orthodox churches, view homosexuality as a grave sin. They have even stronger opinions about transgenderism and consider the choices made by individuals as being driven by mental illness.
The Culture Wars currently playing out across the world from Russia to America, the U.K. Italy, Hungary and a number of other countries are directly related to the need to deflect from the moral failures of organized religion, Christianity in particular. If we narrow these failures down to a single issue, we are left with the sexual abuse of women, young girls, men, and boys, by priests, elders, and pastors. The Church would like us to believe that liberal democracy, human rights, and progressive ideas are to blame for the immorality of the Church. Instead of taking responsibility for their own behaviors, which trace back decades if not centuries, they’ve decided to shift the conversation towards feminists and the LGBQT community.
In a nutshell, they’ve decided to flood the zone with shit to distract the masses from the real issue, sexually rampant men abusing people they are supposed to guide, protect and defend. They desperately needed to create a bigger monster than the archetypal pedophile priest. They found the perfect scapegoat in the transgender and gay community. Drag shows groom young children. The rainbow flag is a symbol of Sodom and Gomorrah. Books in libraries indoctrinate young minds and distort the teachings found in the Bible.
And now we return to my initial question, who gets to decide what is, and what isn’t a sin? God or man? The Greek and Roman gods didn’t think homosexuality was a sin. Which brings us to the most important aspect of our societal condition. If you pay attention to what I just wrote, you’ll notice that I spelled God with a capital G, and gods, with a small g. According to the Judeo-Christian perspective of the world, there is only one God and all other gods are false. Who gets to decide which God is God and which God isn’t God?
According to the Apostle John, God is Love. Would a God of Love damn a person to eternal suffering in hell for loving someone of the same sex? It is this psychic dissonance that has real world consequences for people from the LBGQT community. When the Trump administration purposefully singles out a tiny fraction of society, yet gives the real abusers a pass, my trust in their sincerity plummets. The same applies to right wing conservative influencers and the clergy.
They are busy with a mass public relations campaign in order to save the church from its own inherent vices. Instead of dealing with the real problem, their outdated views on sexuality and women, they double down. They hide behind the small god created in man’s image, instead of making the effort to discover the God that exists outside of petty human grievances, misogyny, self loathing, and bigotry.
Jesus tried to awaken the disciples and broader community to this truth, yet 2000 years later, Christ is as misunderstood as ever. Love one another.
