Speaker Mike Johnson said House Republicans are “excited” to pass President Donald Trump’s policy agenda bill on today as soon as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries finishes his lengthy floor speech, taking a jab at the top Democrat.
“We’re excited to get this done. If Hakeem would stop talking, we’ll get the job done for the American people. It takes a lot longer to build a lie than to tell the truth, so he’s really spinning a long tale in there, but we’re excited. The people will feel the effect of this bill,” he said as Jeffries stretched well into his fourth hour of speaking.
“The sooner we can get to it, the sooner the Democrats will stop talking, we’ll get this bill done for the people and we’re really excited about it. I’m ready to roll,” he continued, before reiterating that he will have the GOP votes to pass the bill.
MOSES THE SPIN-DOCTOR: Hakeem is now into his fifth hour and carefully and deliberately undoing the lies of the holier-than-thou lying POS, Speaker Mike ‘Moses’ Johnson. I’ll update this post as soon as there is a final vote. Don’t get your hopes up, but don’t despair either. Regardless of the outcome of this travesty of justice and the desecration of all that is decent about America, it will only strengthen our resolve.
WHEN DOING THE RIGHT THING IS THE WRONG THING: Do you remember a few moths ago when Chuck Schumer had the opportunity to stop Trump and DOGE dead in their tracks?
– In joining with Republicans last week to push through a six-month spending bill, Senator Chuck Schumer, the New York Democrat who is now minority leader, channeled his inner McConnell to make a similarly unpopular move to keep the government open when many congressional Democrats and voters were clamoring for a showdown with President Trump.
First, Mr. Schumer counted on House Republicans being unable to pass a spending plan given their slight majority, figuring Democrats would then get more leverage to find an acceptable solution when Republicans fell short. But he underestimated Mr. Trump’s ability to cajole and intimidate House Republicans into doing his bidding, and Speaker Mike Johnson was able to squeak the bill through without leaning on Democrats as he had previously.
Congress will need to once again raise the debt ceiling in the coming months and Republicans, despite their majority, might need Democratic votes to do so given the traditional unwillingness of many conservative Republicans to support any increase. A failure to win real concessions in exchange for any Democratic help could greatly intensify anger toward Mr. Schumer.
And the spending bill that has set off such rage extends government funding only through Sept. 30. Congress will again need to find a way to keep the lights on after that. – 19 March 2025 New York Times.
Guess what, the big ugly bill makes it unnecessary to raise the debt ceiling in September, Trump has obliterated the ceiling, outfoxing the Democrats and Chuck Schumer. I was super pissed at the time because I just knew that the opportunity would not come again, and now Chuck, WTF. We go high when they go low, how’s that working out for you? I’ll give you a hint, it’s called FASCISM, that’s how.
SEVEN HOURS OF GIVING THEM HELL: The upper chamber’s bill also proposes raising the debt ceiling by $5tn – more than the $4tn approved by the House last month. The debt ceiling is the limit on the amount of money the US government can borrow to pay its bills. Lifting the debt limit allows the government to pay for programmes already approved by Congress.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has been speaking for nearly seven hours on the House floor.
He could hypothetically keep giving his speech for as long as he wants, and said previously that “I’m planning to take my sweet time”.
CONCLUSION: House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries concluded his speech shortly before 1:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, after speaking for more than eight hours and 44 minutes, echoing famous remarks from two civil rights icons: the late Rep. John Lewis and Martin Luther King Jr.
“Dr. King said that if you can’t fly, run,” Jeffries said. “If you can’t run, walk. If you can’t walk, crawl. But at all times, press on … No matter what the outcome is on this singular day, we’re going to press on. … We’re going to press on until victory is won.”
Now we wait to see if the GOP IS THE POS PARTY. I think we all know the answer already, but you never know.
WEEP THE PEOPLE: Donald Trump’s signature “big, beautiful” bill has passed.
The bill was passed by a vote of 218-214. Voting has finished in the House of Representatives and only two Republicans voted against the bill. With the Republican Party majority, they could have afforded for three party members to hold out.
All Democratic Party members voted against the bill.
It will now go to Trump’s desk for signing into law, which he has indicated he will do tomorrow on the 4 July holiday.
