”We have an opportunity in Texas to pick up five seats. We have a really good governor, and we have good people in Texas. And I won Texas. I got the highest vote in the history of Texas, as you probably know, and we are entitled to five more seats.’ Donald John Trump.
Democrats only need to flip three seats to regain control of the House, the exact reason why Trump is blatantly trying to disenfranchise We the People. Let’s not pretend that both sides don’t Gerrymander, yet the difference between the way Texas and California are going about it couldn’t be more stark.
Gavin Newsom is obviously the person Trump fears the most, as Democrats have been rudderless since November. The longer the power vacuum persists, the more Trump will take. That’s why it is refreshing to see Newsom step into the breach. He is up for the fight, because make no mistake, the war is here whether we like it or not.
Trump targeted LA by overriding the governor’s authority and sending in the National Guard and Marines for no apparent reason other than to flex. He inflamed the riots, and now he is overreacting to homelessness and crime in D.C. Crime and immigration are real world problems, but this shouldn’t be used as an excuse to declare a national emergency.
If he can send ICE agents to physically intimidate and arrest people on their way to Newsom’s press conference, then what stops him from going after New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore, Seattle, or any other cities he doesn’t agree with? I would like the answer to be WE THE PEOPLE, yet it doesn’t feel as if reality has dawned yet.
Maybe Newsom lighting a fire will have the desired effect of waking people up from their complacent slumber. Fascism is not maybe going to happen at some undetermined time in the future, it is happening as I type these words.
Hope is the daughter of a blind man. Thoughts and prayers will not solve this Constitutional crisis, only unrelenting action and a steely determination will. Americans have been conditioned to believe that their ability to vote gives them the power to choose and thereby influence reality.
But what happens when the very essence of democracy is under attack?
From influencing an election in 2016, to lying about a stolen election in 2020, to inciting an insurrection on J6 2021, potentially even having rigged the 2024 election with the help of Elon Musk, to pardoning insurrectionists in 2025, and then employing them as ICE agents, and now trying to add five extra seats in Texas.
