US President Donald Trump has posted an AI picture of himself as the Pope only a week after the funeral of Pope Francis. The Republican, who is not Catholic, took to Truth Social to post the image, which shows him wearing a white papal hat, also referred to as a miter, while a large crucifix dangles from his neck.
Trump had previously joked with reporters how he wouldn’t be against succeeding the late Catholic leader, adding: ‘I’d like to be Pope. That would be my number one choice.’ While chatting on the White House lawn, he revealed he did not have a preference on the next Pope, but quipped there was a ‘very good’ cardinal in New York.
It comes only one week after Pope Francis’ funeral at St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City as the conclave now gather to elect a new leader for the Catholic Church. The 88-year-old passed away on Easter Monday after dedicating his ‘entire life’ to serving God and The Church. He spent his final hours with the devoted, emerging to bless thousands of people in St Peter’s Square.
Trump’s post has been met with outrage online with many branding the move as ‘a great disrespect’, urging the US President to remove the post immediately. ‘Trump is literally mocking the Christian world with this image he shared,’ one said: ‘And on a day when Catholics are mourning the death of their spiritual leader, Pope Francis.’ – By SHANNON MCGUIGAN for DM.
TROLLING THE POPE: – It is important to recognize what is going on here. Take for example Senator Lindsey Graham’s post trolling the Catholic Conclave. Lindsey flip flop Graham is a Southern Baptist, the largest Protestant denomination in America. The US has the largest Christian population in the world, roughly about 210 million. About 140 million are Protestants and 70 million are Catholics. Yet the funny thing is, Catholics make up the largest single denomination in America, whereas Southern Baptists only have about 14 million followers.
The rest of the Protestants are divided into a myriad of smaller groups without a central authority to bind them all together. Jesus fulfills this role, but in a very loose context, which is often open to interpretation, or rather misinterpretation. Southern Baptists condemn Prosperity Gospel, yet the White House Faith Advisor, Paula White, is a major proponent of Prosperity, speaking in tongues, driving out demons and evil spirits, all things frowned upon by the more traditional Protestant groups. Plus she is a female pastor, a big no no for Catholics and Southern Baptists alike.
Even though Trump’s administration is filled with Catholics, as is the Supreme Court, Protestants still view themselves as the real power in America. The issues between Protestants and Catholics run deep, none more so than when it comes to the Pope. So for both Trump and Graham to mock the Catholic faith is a power play. A not so subtle reminder that America is a nation of Wasps. White Anglo Saxon Protestants.
The immigration issue is twofold. Firstly the racist white supremacist angle, and secondly, and even more importantly, 90% of immigrants are from Latin America, which more than likely makes them Catholic. The more immigrants, the stronger Catholicism in America becomes.
