If you could remove only one of Trump’s Cabinet members, who would it be? I would choose Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Three Republican Senators voted against his confirmation, and only a tie breaking vote from Vice President JD Vance, helped him prevail – 51/50.
Pete is a loose cannon as can be gleaned from the fact that he denied sending classified war plans to the Atlantic journalist, Jeffrey Goldberg. The journalist was included on a Signal chat called, Houthi PC small group. I love the fact that life is sometimes exquisitely poetic.
It just so happens that Pete was on the chat with all the main players of the Trump inner circle. JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Tulsi Gabbard, Kash Patel, CIA director John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. Oh, I almost forgot, and some rando journalist from a left leaning magazine.
Oblivious to his presence on the chat, the group whooped and hollered as Pete was giving them real time updates on a classified mission to bomb the Houthis in Yemen. It was Pete’s first opportunity to wield the immense power of the US military and he wanted to show off by over flexing.
Firstly Signal is not a government approved App. Secondly, the government have their own very secure phones to avoid any leaks. Thirdly, all communication has to be stored as records, Signal deletes the messages after a certain period.
What was that I heard you chant? Lock them up! Oh sorry, I misheard, lock her up?
When Pete was confronted with the story, he lied. This forced the journalist to publish the messages, which are now circulating across the world, creating the first real crisis for Trump. So far they’ve just bulldozed over everything with relative ease. Yes a few court cases have slowed them down, but nothing major. In fact, as a collective, they’ve been on top of the world, reveling in their almost unlimited power to destroy anything they don’t like.
They might brush this off, the same way Elon Musk is trying to brush off the catastrophic devaluing of Tesla stock. Yet they also might not. Someone will have to fall, ideally it would be Pete. He sent out the classified information, no one else.
Apart from being highly unqualified and incompetent, the bigger danger with Pete is his militant Christianity. He has been radicalized by some crazy pastor in Tennessee and is a clear and present danger. Pete would use the military against the left, or anyone else deemed to be part of the problem. If Trump said jump, he’d ask how high. Did I mention he has a serious drinking problem, or that he’s been accused of multiple sexual assaults?
He would feel right at home amongst the radical militias like, the Three Percenters, Boogaloo Boys, or Oathkeepers.
In his 2016 memoir, In the Arena, (Pete) Hegseth says he relates to an online image of a triumphant ISIS fighter — a Quran in one hand, an AK-47 in the other: “With God on his side and the wind at his back, he is a conquering warrior,” Hegseth writes. “He is fighting for something greater than himself. He is fighting for his God.” In this photo, Hegseth sees a warped version of himself. “I recognize that fighter, even though I’ve never met him. I am drawn to him because I relate to him,” he writes. “I deplore what he stands for, what he does and how he does it. He is a soldier of hate, subjugation and sheer evil. But I understand his passions.” JASPER CRAVEN for Politico – 12/06/2024
